Jaguars Beat Colts 51-16, End AFC South Streak
The Jacksonville Jaguars used three lengthy scoring plays of 49 yards or more in a little more than four minutes and Blake Bortles threw three, second-half touchdown passes to rout the AFC South Division co-leader Indianapolis Colts by a 51-16 score on Sunday.
This has been a weird stretch for the Colts, who have endured multiple reports suggesting Luck could miss the entire season because of a lacerated kidney and partial abdominal muscle tear he suffered on November 8.
The Jaguars are a game back in the muddled AFC South. They trail Houston and Indianapolis with three games remaining and could catch one of them the Colts host the Texans this week with a victory against Atlanta. Later, when asked about Luck’s comments today regarding how he would hopefully practice this week, Pagano said that, “I have not heard anything from our trainers or doctors on that”. Luck attempted to clear up any confusion on that matter by firmly telling reporters that he plans to play this season.
“I do not feel like I’m 100 percent back from prior injury”, Luck said.
And it ended the Colts 16-game win streak in the division.
“He probably had his best day kicking off”, Bradley said. After giving up 73 points in the last two games combined, both losses to San Diego and Tennessee, the defense found some momentum against the Colts.
Bortles completed 16 of 30 passes for 250 yards, with TD passes to Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson and Julius Thomas.
Notes: Hasselbeck left the game late with a rib injury and was replaced by Charlie Whitehurst…. Slowing down as he was heading for the sideline at the end of a scramble early in the fourth quarter, Hasselbeck was shoved from behind by Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith and landed hard, injuring his ribs (and appearing to aggravate last week’s shoulder injury) in the process.
Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck finished 18-for-35 passes for 252 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. “But I don’t have to answer that question right now”.
“I’m such a big believer in practice”, he said. Tripp says that while he played well, he believes his teammates deserve a lot of credit.
“I was glad to see what took place, because you could see all three phases coming together”, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said Monday.
When the Colts went three-and-out on their next possession, punter Pat McAfee kicked to Jaguars returner Rashad Greene. “(Stress) comes with this job, but we all know what we signed up for”.
The lone Colts scored was by their defense, a Robert Mathis fumble recovery in the end zone that at the time gave in a 13-3 lead. “It was tough. We got down there, had our chance”. His tank is empty after four wins and two brutal losses.
