Lampard: Jose’s not lost players; nothing to gain by sacking him
That’s the view of Tony Cascarino after he witnessed his former club crash to their ninth defeat in 16 Premier League games at Leicester on Monday night.
Despite being the reigning Premier League champions, Jose Mourinho’s men are just one point above the relegation zone. The players that are not performing well, they must feel attacked in their pride and their self-esteem, and they have to do everything to get results in a humble way.
“Mourinho is not sure where to go with it. He’s tried to be strong with them quite a lot of times, and [after the Tottenham game] he tried to say that they were a bit more positive”.
“I don’t know whether he’s lost them but something has to change”, he added.
“I don’t know whether he’s lost them, but something has to change right now, whether it’s the attitude or the performance”.
“I want to stay and I hope (Chelsea owner) Mr. (Roman) Abramovich and the board want me to stay”. Where they are at the moment is impossible.
Mourinho is Chelsea’s most successful manager of all-time and was offered a public vote of confidence by Roman Abramovich last month.
‘I don’t know about betrayed – his words – but they certainly didn’t perform.
“What can they gain by getting rid of him now?”, he said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
‘This is Chelsea we’re talking about – Chelsea on a bad year should be top six, still there or there abouts, but where they are, just above the relegation zone just isn’t possible.
“They are probably not going to make the top four anyway”.
In the aftermath of the devastating defeat – the club’s ninth in 16 games – Mourinho said he felt “betrayed” by his players, while he conceded that his troops are now out of the running for a top-4 finish (14/1 SkyBet).
“Why make a rash change that can’t really affect the year that much?”
