Star Wars fans camped out for premiere
Disney took over a kilometre of Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, complete with fan bleachers and spotlights everywhere.
The TCL Chinese Theatre – formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre – hosted the premiere for the first Star Wars movie in 1977.
Those without advance tickets for opening night in the United States may be out of luck, with many theaters already sold out.
He said the queuing up is part of the experience. “I think they were just seeing many, many girls because obviously, if they weren’t, then I would never have been seen”.
Fans have gathered outside three cinemas since last week.
It’s a grand salute for a film with deep ties to the emirate: a portion of the filming was done in Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Desert in April 2014 – a shoot that was first found and captured by The National’s cameras before the pictures went viral and were picked up by news outlets from around the world.
Speaking about his time there, the 64-year-old said: “It reminded me of when I was in Tunisia on the salt flats”.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, is released in the United Kingdom on December 17, and in the USA and the rest of the world on December 18.
One contributing factor to “Star Wars'” advantage over “Avatar” is the increase in theatres in Russian Federation since 2009 – which is now home to more than 3,800 screens, compared to the country’s 2,100 screens in 2009.
On Friday, dozens of workers were busily erecting a mammoth opaque tent lining four blocks of Hollywood Boulevard.
Inside the partially constructed construction, curious vacationers snapped photographs of lighting gear whereas safety personnel drove round in carts with “The Force Awakens” emblem on them.
Invitations sent to members of the press requested they refrain from revealing spoilers.
Those diehards have been camping outside the Los Angeles premiere of The Force Awakens for almost a week. He noted “The Force Awakens” debut is “triple the magnitude of a typical premiere”. The parking garage at Hollywood and Highland will be open, too.
Abrams and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas posed together for photos, and both men took time to chat with fans – some dressed as X-Wing pilots and others as new “Force Awakens” characters – before heading into the premiere.
“It will be a big group of folks in pajamas eating popcorn and watching the original trilogy”, said Ryan Ballard, an artist and co-founder of the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus.
