Porsche Announces Name Change For 2016 Models: 718 Boxster And 718 Cayman
The new names 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman is Porsche’s way of declaring to the world that they will once again produce top-of-the-line production sports cars with tremendous engine power coming from a classic sports auto with a newer look.
Although shrouded by blankets, it’s clear from a new teaser image – which shows the silhouette of both the Cayman and Boxster – that the Boxster in particular will adopt the swoopy headlight design pioneered on the Porsche 718 racecar from the late 1950s.
Porsche’s four-cylinder boxer engines have a rich history in racing.
Auto Express reports state that the use of flat-four turbo engines was done in an effort to reduce Carbon dioxide emissions. They will still wear their model name designation as Boxster and Cayman, but it will no presented along with its numerical name. We should see these new engines sometime in 2016.
Some of you will think it is unusual to test drive a vehicle like this in cold, snowy and icy conditions, but it’s very good if you need to know how the 2016 Porsche Boxster heater and defroster perform, along with how long it takes for the heated seat to warm up your back, bottom and legs. With lighter engines, the renovated 718s are expected to have better dynamics.
Two versions of the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engines are likely to make the cut, the entry-level 200kW/350Nm unit and a more assertive 230kW/400Nm engine for the 718 Cayman S and 718 Boxster S. Predictions made by Motoring indicate that the cars will reach speeds of around 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds.
Both the next-generation Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman models are scheduled to hit the markets in time for the 2017 model year.
