Poyet backs Mourinho to halt Chelsea slump
Chelsea on a bad year should be top six.
While Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has shown unfamiliar patience as he has waited for the most successful manager he has hired to find a solution to the biggest crisis he has faced in his career, there can surely be nothing left for Mourinho to cling on to.
In the aftermath of the devastating defeat – the club’s ninth in 16 games – Mourinho said he felt “betrayed” by his players, while he conceded that his troops are now out of the running for a top-4 finish (14/1 SkyBet). I don’t know whether [Mourinho]’s lost them but something has to change right now, whether it’s the attitude or the performance.
Former Blues favourite Lampard, the club’s all-time record goalscorer, has been mystified by Chelsea’s problems in the Barclays Premier League this season.
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola may be the manager Manchester United and Manchester City will covet if they look to make a managerial change in 2016, yet his old doe Mourinho now appears to be certain to emerge as a viable contender to take over at either of those mighty clubs. Obviously we’ve been here before with Chelsea when managers change midway through the season.
“Either the manager won’t be there, or they’ll have to completely change the players because I don’t think there’s any way these players and manager can work together for a long period of time”.
“That is one man’s decision, Roman Abramovich”, he added.
“Why make a rash change that can’t really affect the year that much and then see where we are at the end of the year”, Lampard told Sky Sports. They will regret it if they get rid of him.
Asked if he was 100 percent convinced he would still be in charge for the Sunderland game, Mourinho replied: “The only thing I can say is that I want to be”.
They’re not going to get top four or top six, if we’re honest, so I’m sure there’s a view that says to [owner Roman] Abramovich let’s see what happens at the end of the season.
