Tennessee Titans vs. New York Jets

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three touchdown passes and New York’s stingy defense stifled Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans’ offense for most of the game as the Jets cruised to a 30-8 victory Sunday.

Todd Bowles isn’t much into scoreboard watching.

The New York Jets looked every bit like a team intent on making the playoffs.

“It’s no different than the last couple of weeks”, Bowles said Monday. At which point it will be up to Davis, Pryor or whomever Coach Bowles dubs the spy, to catch the Heisman-winning quarterback before he gets a full head of steam.

The Jets, of course had no knowledge of the situation and proceeded with their game plan.

If it wasn’t for a trick wildcat play in which running back Antonio Andrews hit Marcus Mariota for a 41-yard touchdown reception, the game could have easily been a shutout.

More importantly, they hold onto the second Wild Card position in the AFC, which is music to the ears of Jets’ fans.

The Tennessee Titans are on their way to take on the New York Jets this week.

On what guys like him and Marshall tell younger guys about controlling their own destiny at this point in the season… We can play man. We can stop the run and make people one-dimensional.

“Offensively, we’ve got some good chemistry going right now”, Fitzpatrick said.

So there’s no extra concern over what the Chiefs do next weekend at Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Steelers go against Denver, followed by the Ravens and the Bills.

“That guy just works hard”, Marshall said. “Everything else will take care of itself”. The team was flat, couldn’t tackle anyone and with the headsets going out at one time and not being able to call a play from the booth to the field, left a receiver uncovered that Jurrell Casey had to run down.

“We can have a little pity party, or we can rally together…”, Mularkey said. That’s not what we want. “This is a huge week for us”. He has missed two games with the injury, but could be back Sunday if he completes the NFL’s concussion protocol in time. “We’re trying to run the football”.

“We know he is an elusive guy”, said Wilkerson at his locker. Pittsburgh has Denver, at Baltimore and at Cleveland remaining; Kansas City is at Baltimore and then hosts Cleveland and Oakland. WR Eric Decker took his place on punt returns. As a rookie coach, how he’d handle the team’s slump and poor play during it was an intriguing story line. The Jets are averaging close to 375 yards per game, the Titans just below at 350 yards. Muhammad Wilkerson had three sacks for NY, which was coming off a stunning 23-20 overtime win over the Giants last week and had some wondering if there might be a letdown against the lowly Titans (3-10). Three touchdowns on Sunday and no interceptions puts Fitzpatrick’s TD/INT ratio at 25:11.

“He gets the job done”, Decker said.

But really, it should be a decent game. So again, not an excuse but we had no communication to the field or upstairs. It’s not anything that’s flashy. Not just Brandon and Fitz, but the offensive line, the tight ends, the receivers. In his last three games – also, since he trimmed his bushy beard – Fitzpatrick is 79 of 123 for 930 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions for a passer rating of 111.5.

“So you can’t fold under pressure when you go up there”.

I just see week after week receivers running open and unchallenged in this secondary. Maybe next time pull the ol’ lay down and play dead defense.
