French teacher fabricated story of ISIS stabbing, injured himself
“He is being interviewed with a view to establishing the reasons for this invented story”, an official said.
The teacher, who is married to a headmistress and has 20 years experience behind him, lied about an Islamic terrorist shouting ‘This is Daesh (an Arabic acronym for IS). It’s not clear how he was injured.
According to Le Parisien, the man said “It is for Daesh, it is a warning”.
The 45-year-old teacher — who has not been named — has been treated in hospital for superficial wounds to his side and neck.
Strict security measures have been imposed at French schools since previous attacks in January, with doors locked during the day, ID checks for visitors and random bag searches.
French police patrol outside a department store on November 19, 2015 in Paris.
France is still under a state of emergency, so the initial report that the teacher had been assaulted prompted a swift response in a metropolitan area still on edge after last month’s massacre. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks. In response, President Francois Hollande vowed to destroy the terror group and intensified an global military campaign against IS territory in Syria and Iraq.
The incident sparked a manhunt in the northern suburb, as police tried to track down the alleged attacker.
Police are now hunting for the attacker, who is described as wearing a white t-shirt, gloves and a mask, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre.
Phillipe Galli, France’s top government official for the Seine-Saint-Denis region, said Monday that an attacker hurt a male teacher at the Jean Perrin preschool.
Rachel Schneider of the main primary school teachers’ union SNUipp said the IS threats had alarmed members.
France is still on high alert after the November 13 attacks on Paris which killed 130 people in Paris and were claimed by Isil.
