‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Featurette Shines Spotlight on BB-8
After many months of build-up and endless amounts of media coverage featuring countless “Star Wars” references, the long-awaited premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was held Monday night – and Hollywood showed up in force (sorry, you knew it was coming).
The premiere was expected to take place at Los Angeles’ TCL Chinese Theatre, the Dolby Theatre – home of the Oscars – and the El Capitan Theatre.
Meanwhile back on Twitter a film fan added: “Star Wars premiere just letting out now”.
A giant opaque tent shrouded the carpet, which was lined with Stormtrooper mannequins and neon lights that resembled giant lightsabers.
The film has already made box office history in England, where it has sold more than half a million tickets for its opening week at one cinema chain alone. AP material published by LongIsland.com, isdone so with explicit permission.
But many said they did not mind waiting in the long line to walk through the metal detector to be on the safer side.
Abrams, a self-described “Star Wars” fanboy, told Reuters he was feeling the pressure of releasing the film into the world.
But there is a very vocal, hard-core fan base that is thrilled with the prospect of “The Force Awakens” precisely because – judging from trailers and online buzz (the movie has not been previewed) – it appears to be not like the last three movies.
John’s Kitchen co-ordinator Janette Walker said she had never been to a Star Wars film, but the initiative was a great idea.
How nerve-wracking the suspense, as we wonder whether Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is the major “Star Wars” character who will – according to rumor – bite the dust this time around?
The force was strong again when Harrison Ford and his original Star Wars colleagues teamed up to celebrate a landmark moment in the life of the inter-galactic franchise, accompanied by Stormtroopers and robots C-3P0 and R2-D2.
“None of us would be here tonight without the miraculous creation of one man. George Lucas, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of everyone involved in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ‘ thank you sir”, said J.J.
“We’re really disappointed because we are big “Star Wars” fans, and we were hoping to at least see a little of the celebrities”, said Natalie Arnet, a tourist from Paris, who attempted to catch of glimpse of attendees from behind a barricade with her family.
Access to journalists covering the premiere restricted until just before the event began.
SWMFC president Sean Lee (bottom) is praying that director J.J. Abrams doesn’t turn into Jar Jar Abrams [in reference to the Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks – a clumsy, well-meaning Gungan outcast from Naboo].
