Bill Cosby Sues Seven Of His Accusers For Defamation
The suits are against alleged sexual assault victims Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie.
“It is curious that he has filed a claim only against these seven women, when there are scores of other women who have made similar allegations of sexual abuse and assault against Mr. Cosby”, Cammarata said in a statement obtained by People.
Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressely, said the women published false statements and accusations.
The suit does not seek specific damages, but asks that the court impose the maximum monetary sanctions allowed by law. The lawsuit contends that the women “engaged in a campaign to assassinate” his reputation and character.
As per sources, Bill’s new defamation action was a response to a competing lawsuit filed by the women that claims he defamed them by calling them liars previous year.
When Cosby’s former longtime attorney, Martin Singer, defended the comedian by denying accusations of sexual misconduct, the women filed a defamation suit against him “to silence his defenses and monetize their false accusations”, his attorneys wrote.
The allegations of rape and sex assault were part of “an effort to cause damage to Mr Cosby’s reputation and to extract financial gains” from him, the attorney charged.
“My seven clients intend to vigorously proceed with their case and move forward as expeditiously as possible to get their day in court because each one of them are confident that their good name and reputation will be restored at the end of the day”, Cammarata told ABC News.
