Seahawks’ Thomas Rawls Out For Season With Broken Ankle
-PASS DEFENSE: D. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson torched the Ravens’ secondary for five touchdown passes.
Lynch had surgery three weeks ago.
Seattle Seahawks running-back Thomas Rawls will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his ankle against the Baltimore Ravens. Wilson then found Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin for a 14-yard touchdown to lift Seattle to 14-3. Baltimore TE Crockett Gillmore (back) was inactive against the Seahawks. The protection provided by the offensive line has played a big role in that.
“You’ll see how we’ll figure that out”, Carroll said. “The whole idea of being a balanced attack is when you need it you can go to it and if we need to throw the football more we will. If we need to run the football more we will”. There have been three other quarterbacks-Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers no less, who have scored at least three touchdowns with no interceptions in four consecutive games.
Baltimore closes out this harrowing season with three games against teams in the playoff hunt, starting this week with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wilson went 23 for 32 for 292 yards.
We learned quickly that many of us – myself included – were wrong about Schaub after watching Jimmy run the offense on Sunday. As for Harris, I remember his time as a member of the Green Bay Packers in 2012 when he got significant playing time, and he would show flashes of productivity on the ground and in the screen game.
“Being on the road, it’s going to be real important, obviously”, Carroll said.
– Carroll said cornerbacks DeShawn Shead and Marcus Burley are each dealing with sprained ankles from the game and that “we have to wait and see” if they can play Sunday against the Browns.
Seattle still has veteran Fred Jackson on the roster, but it was DuJuan Harris who got 18 carries (for 42 yards) in Rawls’ absence. Seattle now sits in 5th place in the NFC playoff picture and hosts the Cleveland Browns’ league-worst rush defense in week 15.
“We just think it would be best for him”, Carroll said. But there continues to be no estimate on when that’ll be. Lynch had undergone surgery in Philadelphia on November 25 and remained back east for a few days. “He’s got a lot to get through, and he’s got to get past that, whatever impact that’s had. Let’s see how well these guys play and let’s see where we begin next year – who we got, how they fit in, what they do well”. After Rawls left, so did the running game success. He lacks acceleration and vision to replace everything that Rawls did, which will mean that Seattle would have to go back to the running game they used with Lynch.
When the Seahawks opted not to put Lynch on injured reserve, it signaled that he had the chance to be back before the end of the season.
Carroll said of re-signing Brown: “It’s a good opportunity to bring a guy back that we have been training that we liked the work that he did”.
– Tight end Luke Willson had an MRI Monday after suffering bruised ribs against the Ravens.
“He’s fixed. It’s a matter of getting him back and in shape and run and do all the insane stuff that he does”, Carroll said.
INJURY NOTES: Strong safety Kam Chancellor suffered a bruised tailbone early in the game against the Ravens and did not return.
