Guelph Police are asking the public to help bring a suspect to justice after a 24-year-old woman was killed Sunday, hit by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing a RIDE spot check in the city’s downtown.
On Tuesday afternoon, Guelph police announced that a 21-year-old man had been arrested that morning at a Guelph motel.
The man, whose name was not released, is being held in custody.
Members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted an R.I.D.E. check at 3:00 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Rose and Arthur Streets in Guelph. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Police say they continue their investigation and want to hear from anyone with relevant information.
Police say the auto struck and killed Grace Glofcheskie as she was walking down the street.
Police say the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle in the Eastview Road and Starwood Drive area in Guelph’s east end.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Police thanked the community for their help in identifying the suspect and said the investigation was ongoing. The agency says six investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to probe the incident.
