National poll: Trump dominates, Cruz ascends
Republican presidential candidate Sen.
The Washington Post reports several Latino groups joined together in a campaign against Texas Senator Cruz and Florida Senator Rubio, spreading their message across radio, social media, and at public events. Do other candidates openly bash Trump or take a more careful approach as Cruz has done.
Of significance over the past few weeks is Cruz’s rise to the top of the Iowa polls.

Marco Rubio, with Trump representing the party’s populist furies, Rubio carrying the establishment, and Cruz trying-sort of-to split the difference between the two. So Mr Trump may have a hard time climbing back into the lead, especially if he goes on the attack against Mr Cruz, as he did over the weekend when he told CNN he had “far better judgment than Ted”. She would also beat Cruz by 48 percent to 45 percent.
Beyond that, 69 percent of adults nationally say they would feel anxious with Trump as president, with 49 percent saying the would feel “strongly” so.
Trump trails Hillary Clinton 50-44 percent in a head-to-head matchup of the two candidates with the highest recognition, and highest negatives, in the 2016 race.
On Sunday, Trump dismissed Cruz as a “maniac” without the right temperament for the Oval Office. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, suddenly ahead of Trump in the Hawkeye state, wants to justify the hopes of those who see him as the most authentic conservative in the race. Asked to state their second-choice preference, these Trump supporters overwhelmingly pick Cruz (49pc), with Marco Rubio (16pc) a distant second.
A majority of Republicans in the state also back Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims from immigrating to the U.S.
Rubio has already questioned Cruz on foreign policy, suggesting he is guilty of an “isolationist” approach and criticizing him for voting to restrict the bulk metadata programs used by intelligence agencies – a move that leaves Cruz more exposed following the San Bernardino terror attack. “I think we need to be the national security party, the party of strong national security, committed to ensuring we have the strongest military force in the world”.
The next Democratic debate, with a much less crowded stage, is set for Saturday. Jeb Bush, the son and brother of former presidents, is a distant fifth, his campaign spinning its wheels. They could tag-team Trump for being unelectable and only selectively conservative, but are likely too anxious about each other as they seek to secure the still-sizeable just-not-Trump vote.
The numbers in New Hampshire could shift rapidly after Iowa, as could the other early states of SC and Nevada. Rand Paul all at 2 percent.
“I’ve been making executive decisions for 13 years and been held accountable for them”, Christie said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Though the debate will take place in Las Vegas, one subplot will be the battle for New Hampshire.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former New York Governor George Pataki and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham will appear in an earlier undercard debate.
