Broncos sticking with Osweiler but Manning may practice
“I’ve said it from the jump that you’ve got to go back with Peyton whenever he’s healthy for the simple fact that he has the experience you want”, said LaDainian Tomlinson, according to the Denver Post.
“Let me see where we’re at Monday, Tuesday”. Although Osweiler got off to a hot start, winning his first three starts, the Broncos haven’t scored a touchdown in 23 consecutive possessions over the past two games.
Osweiler cemented his role as the starter when the Broncos defeated the New England Patriots in overtime to give them their first loss of the season. “Peyton sees the game when he’s playing or not playing as well as anybody, so to have an extra set of eyes – especially his eyes – out there helping me and coaching me through the whole situation was something I appreciated a lot”.
Manning hasn’t gone through a full practice since early November, but he was back on the field last week. If he is just healthy enough to play but still banged up, the Broncos may prefer to stick with Osweiler.
Asked if he expects Osweiler to start Sunday at Pittsburgh, Kubiak said: “Yeah, nothing has changed until I sit down and see exactly where Peyton is at, where we’re moving this week”. He missed on at least one potential TD pass and saw another dropped Sunday, a day in which Denver mustered virtually no rushing attack to take the heat off him.
Brock Osweiler got introduced to Khalil Mack in a rough way as the quarterback was sacked more times than not in the loss to the Oakland Raiders. While Manning’s play had a sharp decline this year, the team has publicly committed to putting him back in the lineup if he’s ready. Kubiak is being as methodical as possible as he tries to buy time on the quarterback decision that will define Denver’s 2015.
Manning has said his doctors don’t know if or when he’ll be able to return to action this season.
It may take a few more weeks to see how the Denver Broncos rumors pan out. We’re not supposed to lose that game. “But you get over those real quick and you go to the next week and that’s what we’ll do”.
Kubiak said Monday afternoon “nothing has changed”.
“Frustration is a part of football, ” Kubiak said. We played great defense yesterday. We just know we have to be hitting on all cylinders by… actually by about right now.
