Jets rolling over Titans
Speaking about the playoffs, the Jets have now separated themselves, along with the Chiefs and Steelers, in the AFC wild-card race.
“Just keep doing what we’re doing and getting better”, Bowles said.
With the Jets ahead comfortably, bruising running back Chris Ivory went to work, registering his third 100-yard game of the season. In the short period of time in their first year playing together and playing with Fitzpatrick, they have developed a chemistry that is paying off for the Jets.
For Titans interim head coach Mike Mularkey, meanwhile, the busted play signified a game and a season gone south.
The Jets started the season 4-1, then lost four of their next five to drop to 5-5.
NY came away with the easy win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 14, dominating them en route to a 30-8 victory.
“They are huge up front”, Bowles said of the Titans’ rookie linemen. The other problem with that is, sometimes the best way to beat a blitzing defense is with screens and quick passes that get your skill position players in the open field.
So there’s no extra concern over what the Chiefs do next weekend at Baltimore.
“It’s a big concern because he can run like a halfback”, Bowles said. Everything else will take care of itself.
“I went up there, sped up the count, got under center, so it could have been a disaster before it started just with Nick (Mangold) still snapping it as a shotgun snap”.
On the pass rush today: “I think Mo (Muhammad Wilkerson) had a great game today”.
Earlier in the week, we talked about the potential of a “trap” game. With Revis back, it’ll be another tough matchup for Dez Bryant after the receiver had one of his worst games last Sunday. We have a lot of young guys.
“We know he is an elusive guy”, said Wilkerson at his locker. The Cowboys haven’t beaten the Jets since Thanksgiving 2007.
Mularkey wasn’t striking an accusatory tone nor using the lack of communication as an excuse – “That doesn’t give us any reason not to still cover an uncovered receiver” – but any headset issues in an National Football League stadium are interesting in an era in which visitors facing the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium seem to put up with an unusual amount of communication hiccups.
This team just did a poor job all around. It was the third straight game, and sixth this season, that NY has held opponents under 75 yards rushing. He posted five tackles, three sacks (marking 12 for the year), and a forced fumble.
Ryan Fitzpatrick and the offense have been stunningly unsafe. Fitzpatrick now has 25 touchdown passes on the year, four shy of tying Vinny Testaverde’s franchise record for a single season. Ryan Fitzpatrick was on fire, as he threw two touchdown passes in that second quarter, and three in the first half overall.
Skrine “played it pretty well”, Mariota said. “He’s made some really good decisions these last three games”. But he later connected from 47, 27 and 42 yards. It’s not anything that’s flashy.
While it’s nice to see a Jets quarterback throwing for over six hundred yards and six touchdowns in a two-week span, it’s even better to see zero picks.
Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis made his return after missing two games with a concussion. “(Sunday) was an example of that, playing a complete game. And if you have seen it, it’s just a cool compilation to watch again. “We were focused, we were locked in and we’ve got to continue to stay locked in throughout the rest of the season”.
