CBI raid not against Kejriwal: Jaitley
Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waging a “psychopathic” political vendetta after federal investigators raided his administration’s headquarters.
Party spokesperson Derek O’Brien said, “CBI raid on Arvind Kejriwal’s office is unprecedented”. After taking warrants, the agency initiated searches on the residential and the official premises of the Secretary at Delhi Secretariat.
Kejriwal claimed that CBI conducted raids on his office.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said when Arunoday Prakash, the government’s media adviser, reached the Secretariat, he saw that the CBI team had cordoned off the third floor that includes the Chief Minister’s chamber.
In a press conference Kejriwal revealed that CBI came for DDCA files.
Kejriwal launched an all-out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Twitter.
The BJP also hit back at Kejriwal with Union Minister Prakash Javadekar saying the CBI was only probing a complaint of corruption against an officer and maintained it has nothing to do with Kejriwal’s office. If CBI had any evidence against Rajender, why didn’t they share it wid me? Did the Chief Minister know about the raid?
“Modi is trying to stop honest politics by using CBI raids as a scare”.
Jaitley rebutted the chief minister’s allegation saying it was “absolutely rubbish”. Terming the CBI raids “dictatorial and intimidatory tactics” by the NDA, the JD(U) called upon all non-BJP parties to register their protest. Congress too opposed the raids but mocked that Kejriwal had got a dose of his own medicine.
But one of his senior ministers ridiculed the idea that the raid was politically motivated and denied the central government would seek to exercise influence on a CBI investigation. “I was about to order a commission of enquiry”, he said.
Searches are being conducted in Kumar’s office and residence. He said that CBI is looking for DDCA files for removing Arun Jaitley’s name in DDCA Scam.
Another official said on condition of anonymity that Rs240,000 in cash and property deeds had been recovered from Kumar’s home.
Kejriwal, a former bureaucrat and anti-corruption campaigner, rose to prominence as leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, which means “common man”. “Let me tell you Modi ji, you may frighten others with CBI raids. Then I will apologise for my words”. “So, how can you criticise the Government of India and the Prime Minister”, he asked, adding the government does not monitor the CBI.
