Ringo Starr drum kit from Beatles days sells for US$2.2m
The 1963 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl three-piece drum set was used to record some of The Beatles’ biggest hits.
Meanwhile, Starr’s former drum kit sold at the auction for $2.2 million (£1.4 million) to Jim Irsay, owner of National Football League team the Indianapolis Colts. Nevertheless, Colts owner Jim Irsay has brought something together.
Starr used that drum set in 1963 and 1964 for many iconic Beatles tunes, including “She Loves You“, “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand“.
“Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again”, the text read.
LOS ANGELES A drum kit played by Ringo Starr is seen fetching millions of dollars at auction this week as part of a sale of items belonging to the Beatle and his wife, Barbara Bach. Another anticipated item will be Starr’s first copy of The White Album, aptly named due to the fact that the album is literally just the color white.
The auction runs from Thursday until Saturday in Beverly Hills and also online via Julien Auction’s website.
Irsay is a huge music fan and an avid collector of music gear, including over 30 famous guitars, some of which were used by Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia and Eric Clapton. Two guitars that were owned and played by John Lennon and George Harrison will be up for auction. Proceeds will go to benefit Ringo’s Lotus Foundation Charity.
