Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour Live Coming Exclusively to Apple Music
“I wondered what would happen if I invited the most wonderful artists in the world to come out with me and perform on my stage”.
It will not be available for purchase, but it is free for streaming for Apple Music users.
Directed by music video favourite Jonas Akerlund, the film was recorded during Swift’s November 28 concert at Sydney, Australia’s ANZ Stadium. It also features cameos from Joan Baez, Kobe Bryant, Ellen Degeneres, Lena Dunham, Kendall Jenner, Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, Serena Williams and the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team, among others.
Initially at least, its a big marketing win to Apple, who had suffered a scolding from Swift over its initial plans not to pay artists for music streamed during free trials.
“Swift said that Apple was “disappointing” and she expected more from the company she thought was “generous” and historically progressive”. The movie is also expected to show off rehearsals and some backstage videos from her previous shows. She shared a photo of herself and all her backup dancers onstage in a group hug, which she captioned, “Farewell, 1989 World Tour”, with both a heart and a broken-heart emoji.
I think Id be leaving a huge part out if I didnt mention the blog post that I wrote. “I think that is probably the starting point because I didn’t have a personal relationship with Apple until that point”, Swift said in an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio (the interview airs Monday at noon Eastern).
“I was struck with this overwhelming sense of fear”, she tells the host. As for Swift, there’s no official word on how much the deal is worth, but Re/code notes that “sources say she’s getting paid for it”. I wondered what it would look like if they were all lit up and dancing around like no one was watching. “Am I gonna wake up tomorrow and all my music is off of iTunes?”
