Several areas waterlogged after heavy rains lash Mumbai; suburban services hit
The Central Railway local services were disrupted on the Thane-CST sector for some time due to 10 inches of flooding near Sion and Wadala, Thane, Matunga, Kings Circle and Kurla stations.
At least four Mumbai-bound flights were forced to abort landing at the last minute as the airstrip visibility fell amid heavy showers that lashed the city today morning.
– “We are having good to very good clouding at the offshores and expect good rainfall in next 48 hours”, IMD Mumbai centre’s director V K Rajiv said.
“Efforts are on to restore the services”, senior PRO Western Railway Gajanan Mahatpurkar said. Services from Bandra were also affected due to waterlogging but they have been brought back to normal.
Several parts of Mumbai received rains on Sunday, while on Tuesday the city received 30.08 mm rainfall.
The return of monsoon has severely hit the officegoers, school and college students, as well as commuters in Mumbai since Tuesday morning.
A total of 445 mm rainfall was recorded till 7 AM today in Palghar, according to officials at the district headquarters.
The Palghar-Boisar road was closed due to water on road near ST Workshop, Umroli and Saravli.
Mumbai, Jul 21 (IBNS) Heavy rains continued to pound Mumbai and its surrounding areas since Monday night leading to disruption in train services, the lifeline of the country’s financial capital.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC’s) disaster management cell, waterlogging was reported at 32 locations in the city till 10.30am.
