Jon Jones weighs in on potential Jose Aldo rematch with Conor McGregor
That’s because “Notorious” chose to make quick work of the Brazilian bomber, knocking him out in a mere 13 seconds last weekend (Sat., Dec. 12, 2015) in the pay-per-view (PPV) main event of UFC 194, which took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, to become the undisputed Featherweight champion.
Even before Conor McGregor delivered his brutal blows to Jose Aldo in Saturday night’s UFC featherweight title fight, his fans showed they could throw a few punches of their own.
No one will know how the fight would have gone if Aldo hadn’t been caught out, no one can say how the rematch will turn out. Aldo fell to the mat and after a couple of McGregor hammer punches, the fight was suddenly over as quickly as it began.
Aldo, like so many of us, are still trying to figure out exactly what caused one of the best fighters of all-time to lose in a blink of an eye.
The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle. Aldo was previously the only champion the division had ever known.
A mere 13 seconds into the fight, the 10-year unbeaten streak of Jose Aldo was over.
Conor McGregor could be sidelined for as long as six months if an X-ray reveals damage to his left wrist.
“If (McGregor doesn’t vacate his belt) then we do Frankie Edgar”, White told UFC.com after the fight. UFC President Dana White has already talked to him about a possible rematch but said that it is too soon to make it happen. “If I go up to that lightweight division there’s no way in hell that I’m vacating my belt”. I think every champion, after losing, and especially the way I lost – no excuses, I lost, he connected with a good strike and was successful – but, of course, I want a rematch.
“Everybody’s time will come”, he said. “72 Million? I’m catching up”, McGregor said at the UFC 194 post-fight press conference (via Bloody Elbow). Joe Riggs, the welterweight fighter popularly referred to as Diesel, may have bitten off more than he can chew.
