Al-Qaeda terror suspect nabbed in Delhi
Bhubaneswar: Two suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists arrested from Paschimakachha village under Jagatpur police station in Cuttack district on Wednesday. The operation to catch hold of the assailant was carried on by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.
Mohammad Asif, a suspected member of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday, reports said. The police said he went to Pakistan for training in 2013, and has links with other terror operatives in Jharkhand, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh as well as in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Dubai and London.
Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma told mediapersons that Abdul Rehman is suspected to be a facilitator for AQIS apart from carrying out recruitments for the Jihadi outfit.
Police recovered three mobile phones, a laptop and other “incriminating articles”, including documents of indoctrination and jihadi literature (authored by Maulana Umar) from Asif’s possession.
Based on intelligence inputs, Delhi Police arrived in city and raided the place where Rehman was residing.
Rahman’s elder brother Tahir Ali was arrested in 2001 in connection with the terrorist act in American Embassy in Kolkata, police said. “He is being produced before a local court on Salepur and will be taken on transit remand to Delhi”, the Police Commissioner of the Twin City said. He is now being questioned by the Delhi Police sleuths. Most of his students hail from Jharkhand.
