Child didn’t die during demolition: Prabhu
As a political slugfest broke out over slum demolition issue, AAP on Monday hit back at Rahul Gandhi alleging such actions were also carried out under Congress rule while Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called him a child.
This development is likely to give Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal an edge over the Indian railways.
People who are affected by the demolition drive at the slums next to a railway line in Shaku Basti area on Sunday night. An infant died in controversial circumstances during the drive.
“The cause of death of the seven-month old baby was shock as a result of chest and head injury due to blunt force impact, the report said. The child had died before the demolition drive”.
Since the demolition, the hutment dwellers have been living in the open, at the site, under canvas tents.
Rahul questioned AAP’s protest and said AAP is in power in Delhi so why are they protesting. On Monday Rahul Gandhi met the displaced men, women and children and vowed to fight for their rights.
Another AAP leader, Ashutosh, said Mr Gandhi’s comments show why the Congress was routed in the national election previous year. He even talked to the slum people and promised that they will provide every kind of assistance to them. The Modi Government and the Delhi Government are involved here and now they are engaged in a blame game. According to Mr Kejriwal, Mr Gandhi was still a “kid”. “It is central government’s policy that till alternate arrangements are made, no demolition can take place”, he said.
“In the meeting, Railway officials told the CM said that there is no rehabilitation scheme before demolition”.
“What was the tearing hurry to demolish in December?” the judge asked. The court also lashed out at the Railways, saying the demolition drive was inhuman.
The encroachment at Shakur Basti was temporaray in nature and several notices were served to encroachers for vacation of land, the minister said.
It said that how can people be evicted without having any rehabilitation plan. “They did not arrange the same, so have suspended them”, an enraged Kejriwal said in a series of tweets.
A bench of Justices J Muralidhar and Vibhu Bakhru had termed it a “pathetic act” as “peoples’ lives are concerned and we can’t be so informal”.
