Bottled Canadian mountain air worth P1,300 each sells out in China
According to a report, Vitality Air has seen sales to China soar – co-founder Moses Lam told the Telegraph that the first shipment of 500 bottles of fresh air was sold in four days, and a crate containing 4,000 bottles has been shipped to China, most of which has already been sold as well.
Each bottle of Vitality Air sells for around 16 bucks, and Lam and company are selling to other countries including Saudi Arabia and India – though China is their biggest market. Larry is our main news editor.
“Just like bottled water, premium air is a growing industry because people are noticing the difference”, Vitality Air website says.
That doesn’t mean that you should spend your money on such a product though – the negative effects of air pollution are coming through long term exposure to horrific conditions – that’s why doctors keep saying it’s time to move from Delhi.
That’s around 400 Yuan to Chinese residents for a can of air, which is 200 times the price of a bottle of mineral water – usually around two Yuan (20p). A second bag sold for US$160.
Last year, Beijing artist Liang Kegang fetched the equivalent of £512 for a glass jar filled with air taken from a business trip in southern France.
Vitality Air’s success comes as an enormous, delightful surprise, considering it began as a joke selling something entirely free at the moment, and something everyone needs but nearly everyone takes for granted.
“We wanted to do something fun and cool and that was nifty and cause a disruption”.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “Spaceballs”, you probably remember the scene with the antagonist breathing in a can of “Perriair”, or canned fresh air.
“We may have bit off more than we can chew”.
