Boone’s season likely over for 49ers

The Browns averaged 6.5 yards per play, and that’s really all anyone needs to know about the 49ers defense in this game.

Coming into the season, the Browns were hoping to be able to take pressure off of the quarterback position and not need it to win them games.

“Offensively and defensively it was as complete a game as we’ve played”, Browns head coach Mike Pettine said.

“We played a lot of inside-zone, so their linebackers were sucked into the middle”, Greco said. It was a win we earned.

Back on the field after being benched for two games, Manziel is taking full advantage of his second opportunity.

Manziel was given plenty of time to throw and pick out open receivers to build a 10-0 lead. Cleveland had lost 15 of its past 17 games overall and Johnny Manziel was the third starting quarterback Sunday in as many weeks for the team. “We tried to prepare as much as possible to defend that”. But as they debate Manziel’s future, those aren’t the pictures the Browns are most concerned about. We’re going to have a great deal of respect for them, but we’re not going to be intimidated by them.

“(Johnny) was dialed in to the plan, he knew where to go with the ball, and stayed in the pocket until it was dictated that he had to get out”.

The 49ers might have played their ugliest game of the season, which is saying a lot because the 49ers’ entire season has been ugly. It’s as unforgiving of a final stretch any team in the National Football League will face, but the Browns will enter it with the kind of momentum they’ve had just two other times this season. Johnson, a rookie, gained 78 yards on 13 carries. Talk to a guy that’s in the locker room like Gary Barnidge, who sees the noticeable difference from a year ago, the improvement there, the commitment, the dedication, the wanting to get it right, making sure that the details are right. He has 25 touchdown passes this season and has never missed a game.

But Manziel redeemed himself in the second half as the Browns improved to 3-10, won for the first time since October 11 and prevailed for the first time in December since Dec. 9, 2012.

“You can’t make those mistakes”, Tomsula said. But it’s pretty clear you’re starting to see some of the discord and discontent going on inside that building.

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked nine times, and the 49ers’ offensive line – despite the return of center Daniel Kilgore – was continuously beaten at the line of scrimmage. He could not follow up last week’s performance when the 49ers stormed into Chicago and beat the Chicago Bears 26-20. Russell Wilson completed 23 of 32 passes for 292 yards and five touchdowns.

NOTES: RB Shaun Draughn started for 49ers rushing leader Carlos Hyde…. But Sunday was no ordinary afternoon on the blustery lakefront for Dawson, who returned for the first time since leaving via free agency following the 2012 season.

Seemingly, the only low point for the Browns in their win was the loss of wide receiver Brian Hartline, who caught eight Manziel passes for 107 yards in just three quarters.

The ball carriers were better, but the switch from the struggling Cam Erving to Austin Pasztor at left guard produced immediate dividends.
