Jonathan Stewart Ruled Out For Panthers’ Week 15 Game Vs. Giants
On the season, the Carolina Panthers average 219.2 yards in passing and 141.9 yards in rushing. With that out of the way, Rivera relayed that either Fozzy Whittaker or Mike Tolbert will start this Sunday, but Artis-Payne should also get in the act, calling it a “big opportunity” for the rookie.
Fantasy impact: It’s a crushing blow for fantasy owners who rode Stewart’s dependability to the playoffs, and it could very well be the case that he does not play in Week 15’s contest against the New York Giants. The two backs have carried the ball a combined 30 times for 105 yards and a touchdown this season. He has played in four games this season with 31 yards on 12 carries. Stewart did not practice Wednesday as he nursed his ailing left foot. However, he said the team doesn’t view this as a long-term injury.
“We’re going to be smart about it”, Rivera said, per ESPN.
Starting cornerback Charles Tillman returned to practice Wednesday and “looked well”, Rivera said.
Along with Olsen, Stewart also had an MRI last Monday and appeared to have suffered a foot sprain, according to the Charlotte Observer. The coach said he hopes Tillman will be available to play against the suddenly hot Eli Manning.
Carolina signed free agent Robert McClain to take Benwikere’s spot.
