War on Terror Dominates Final GOP Debate of 2015
Presidential candidate Donald Trump gestures at the CNN presidential debate in Las Vegas on December 15, 2015.
Donald Trump speaks during the CNN Republican presidential debate overnight. Trump offered much of the same lines he’s delivered in the past: he’s going to make America great again by building a wall and keeping out Muslims.
But one candidate who disagreed but hasn’t criticized Trump to his face – Texas Sen.
(Trump) “He has failed in this campaign, it’s been a total disaster, nobody cares”. We’re talking about security. “Our country doesn’t win any more”, he said in his closing remarks. “What I wanted to do is I wanted to get our brilliant people from Silicon Valley and other places and figure out a way that ISIS can not do what they’re doing”, said Trump.
Post-debate popularity is going to Donald Trump, which is no surprise there and Jeb Bush.
Each Republican debate thus far, Sun Sentinel editorialists and political writers have rated the four Florida candidates (Trump, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson and Marco Rubio) on a five-point scale for style and substance, then we averaged the results.
“Banning all Muslims will make it harder for us to do exactly what we need to do, which is to destroy ISIL”, he said.
The fifth republican presidential debate featured sharp exchanges between both old rivals and new ones who are moving up in the polls. In one testy exchange, Rubio noted that Cruz had voted against the Defense Authorization Act, which includes funding for Iron Dome, the short-range anti-missile program Israel has used to deflect rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. “I really am”, he said.
Bush continued to aggressively attack Trump, but the GOP frontrunner consistently showed a dismissive tone toward Bush questioning his toughness and fledgling campaign.
With tens of millions remaining in the bank behind Bush, however, there were modest signs of optimism after Tuesday night’s debate performance.
“Cruz was also good, but he probably lost some viewers when he filibustered”. There may not be enough time for a serious independent bid anyway, but Trump pledged his support to the Republican Party for the duration of the race.
“ISIS is gaining strength because the perception Is that they’re winning, and President Obama fuels that perception”, Cruz said.
Bush said, “This is a tough business to run for president”.
Most candidates rejected front-runner Donald Trump’s recommendation to temporarily block all Muslims from entering the country, with some casting their opposition in pragmatic terms and others saying the proposal is immoral. People will not come in unless they come in legally.
Bush’s team sent out a news release on “Jeb!” letterhead following the debate that read, “Jeb took on Donald Trump and his irresponsible policies that would be detrimental to our national security”. If he had executed such an attack during the first or second debate, things may have been different.
