Firefox Browser Brings 64-Bit Goodness to Windows in Stable Form
Mozilla has finally, finally introduced a 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows with the recent release of Firefox 43. Then there is also Firefox 64-bit for Windows, users can choose search suggestions from the all-new bar, along with an on-screen keyboard displayed if you have selected an input field on devices running Windows 8 or newer.
However Mozilla notes that the 64-bit version of Firefox will have limited support for plugins and this is by design.
64-bit Firefox is available on Windows 7 and up, and will give users increased security and performance, allowing the browser to take advantage of modern hardware setups.
It’s been an interesting road up to this point.
Mozilla just pushed out a major update to its popular Firefox web browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Mozilla’s been toying with 64-bit flavors of Firefox in Windows for almost a decade, but none of the previous builds ever graduated out of beta. If that doesn’t matter, and you’d like to upgrade, you’ll need to download the 64-bit version of the browser from the link above; an in-place upgrade to Firefox 43 won’t transition to the 64-bit version automatically (for obvious reasons).
The 64-bit version should provide improved performance for web applications and games on 64-bit computers. The only plug-in that’s compatible with the 64-bit Firefox is Flash.
The latest 64-bit support has been rolled out as part of the latest Firefox 43 release for Windows, Linux, OS X, and Android.
