Obama to meet with San Bernardino shooting victims
President Barack Obama will visit the families of victims of the San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack Friday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest announced Wednesday. Obama has since worked to explain to Americans his strategy for combating Islamic State and preventing further attacks. Two suspects who are said to have been inspired by the Islamic State were killed in a shootout with police.
Obama met with his national security team at the Pentagon on Monday, instead of their usual location in the White House Situation Room.
Both incidents have heightened public fears of additional attacks on US soil. The White House has called on Congress to enact what it calls a “no-fly, no-buy” law that would prohibit weapons sales to anyone on the federal government’s no-fly list. The White House is considering acting to expand gun background checks without congressional approval. She said the recommendations will include measures to expand background checks.
Obama has attended memorial services for victims of mass shootings in Fort Hood, Texas, Tuscon, Ariz., the Washington Navy Yard, Newtown, Conn., and Charleston, S.C.
“I’m pleased that President Obama will be traveling to San Bernardino to meet with family members of those lost in the horrific attack at the Inland Regional Center”, he said.
