O’Riordan admits assault over air incident
The former Cranberries frontwoman is facing four charges – including assault and obstructing a garda – after being arrested at Shannon Airport off a NY flight on November 10th a year ago.
A cabin attendant testified that O’Riordan stomped on her ankle as the Aer Lingus flight from NY landed in Shannon, Ireland, in November 2014.
The 44-year-old star’s guilty plea comes three months after O’Donnell had previously asked for a court delay to allow O’Riordan to seek medical treatment for an unspecified condition.
Ennis District Court in Ireland was told she accused an officer of groping and sexually assaulting her during the arrest, a claim which has since been retracted.
Judge Patrick Durcan will make a ruling in the New Year.
The inspector said while she was in the back of a patrol auto to take her to Shannon Garda station, “she was banging and kicking, it looked like she was trying to break the windows but she didn’t do that”. I’m the Queen of Limerick. “I’m the Queen of Limerick”.
Solicitor for O’Riordan, Bill O’Donnell accepted on behalf of his client that there is no substance to the allegation made by her against Garda Dawson.
When she was restrained after a short chase, she head butted the officer and spat in his eye, the court heard.
In mitigation, he said she was in a state of hypomania and has since been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder.
The Zombie singer did not speak during the hearing.
He remanded her on continuing bail until January 20 when he will set a date for sentencing.
