Pistons’ Jennings open to playing D-League on Saturday
Ten of New York’s players are going to be eligible for trading and it is highly likely that Phil Jackson and his crew will join in the moving and dealing before the February trade deadline arrives.
While Berman noted the possibility of the Knicks trading for Jennings, he also insisted that they would still wait to see if Jennings still has much left after suffering an Achilles tear past year.
According to the New York Post, one point guard that the Knicks may attempt to trade for is Brandon Jennings of Detroit Pistons.
Jennings is a back-up guard for the Pistons. Jose Calderon slowed down after a few good games while rookie Jerian Grant did not play in the win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday and was barely used in the loss versus the Sacramento Kings. He averaged 7.6 assists per game in 2013-14 and 6.6 assists in 2014-15, which were both higher than any marks he set in his prior four years with the Milwaukee Bucks. Prior to his season-ending injury, he played 41 games with the Pistons, with an average of 15.4 points and 6.6 assists per game.
Jennings is now recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered last season and he is in the final year of his contract.
Basketball Insider’s Steve Kyler wrote, “If Jennings can show he still has bounce and can attack, the Pistons may find themselves with some duplication they don’t have a lot of minutes for with Reggie Jackson clearly their starting point guard”.
The Knicks is expected to be one of several teams that will make an offer to Detroit for Jennings. The Detroit Pistons guard is said to be a possible target for the New York Knicks, who are overstocked in their frontcourt and lack a powerful point guard up top.
