White Sox acquire All-Star Todd Frazier in three-way trade with Reds, Dodgers
CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman has confirmed the deal. It was clear that they were not going to head into the season without making a change.
The big name in the trade was National League all-star third baseman Todd Frazier, who went from the Reds to Chicago.
First was Frazier’s second half decline in 2015.
According to multiple reports, the Dodgers acquired outfield prospect Trayce Thompson in a three-team trade Wednesday morning.
“Coming off knee surgery, we felt like it was in everyone’s best interest for him to be locked in at third”, Friedman said. Acquired from the Atlanta Braves in a 13-player trade at the trade deadline this past summer, Peraza was ranked as the Dodgers’ fourth-best prospect by Baseball America. But to get something, you have to give something.
Johnson, 24, broke into the majors last season, hitting just.230/.306/.270 with 4 RBI in 36 games. He strikes out a ton and doesn’t walk all that much, with six times more strikeouts than walks in his MiLB career, and hasn’t display great on-base skills.
The final piece of the trade for the Reds is the 2015 third round draft pick, Dixon.
While Schebler was a corner outfielder, Thompson can play all three outfield positions.
Next season looks better with Todd Frazier in the middle of the lineup and filling the dark space that has been third base on the South Side. Frazier joins fellow trade acquisition Brett Lawrie in a revamped White Sox infield after being shopped heavily by the Reds in recent trade talks.
As for the Dodgers, they get some talented, but overall unproven prospects.
Add Montas and Thompson to a giant list of prospects that includes Julio Urias, Jose De Leon, Grant Holmes, Walker Buehler, Alex Verdugo, Cody Bellinger, Austin Barnes, Jharel Cotton, Yadier Alvarez, Starling Heredia, Zach Lee and others, and we might see a deal for Fernandez this offseason.
At any rate, the Dodgers appeared to have made out very well for themselves while the White Sox land a valuable power hitter in Frazier.
Schebler’s a 25 year old OF who has shown big power in the past – he blasted 28 dingers at AA Chattanooga back in 2013 – but he struggled in his first taste of AAA last year.
Schugel, 26, made his major league debut with Arizona previous year, posting a 5.00 ERA over nine innings in five relief appearances. 185 with 11 doubles, one triple and one homer. 295 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 44 games. The Dodgers came out well in this deal. The 2017 season is the one to capitalize on and I would like to think the White Sox are prepared to do such a sneaky maneuver.
