The Department of Justice will conduct a wide-ranging investigation of the
Since the announcement of the investigation, Emanuel has been open to the decision, despite the calls for him to resign and the allegations he was involved in the cover-up.
The announcement comes on the same day the Justice Department launched a civil rights investigation into the police department’s overall use of deadly force and the handling of alleged misconduct.
Late Sunday, the mayor’s office said the head of IPRA had resigned effective immediately and that Fairley would take the job. High-profile killings of black men at the hands of mainly white police officers in US cities have prompted a national debate about the use of excessive force by police. They say city government has failed the African American community.
(CNN) – The storm over the Chicago police’s use of force shows no sign of abating. “There was no attempt to try to get his statements to match the evidence”.
Alvarez has been criticized for not filing charges earlier in the McDonald case, in which the video shows the teen veering away from officers on a four-lane street when Van Dyke, seconds after exiting his squad vehicle, opens fire from close range.
But last month, after a county judge ordered that the police video of the incident be released, a different view of events emerged.

Emanuel, who initially said a federal civil rights investigation would be “misguided” but later reversed course, said the city needs comprehensive solutions in the wake of the video showing McDonald’s death. Jackson said he hoped that the investigation would focus not only on the police department, but on Emanuel’s office and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, which he and others have criticized for taking so long to bring charges against Van Dyke.
The group Action Now is among those calling for Alvarez’s resignation.
Johnson was shot to death while running from police, allegedly ignoring police orders to freeze and drop the 9 mm handgun he was carrying.
An attorney for Johnson’s family, Michael Oppenheimer, has said that the video showed Johnson did not have a gun. How many more videos do we have to see until we realize that Alvarez has more than skeletons in her political closet.
We are deeply saddened by the death of a young black man who the people we elect and officers sworn to serve and protect the public failed.
