Warriors coach Steve Kerr feels better, hopes to return soon
Interim coach Luke Walton has led the team to a 24-1 record – it’s merely coincidental that speculation around Kerr’s return has heated up following the season’s only loss – but he said Wednesday that he’s not planning a transition period until Kerr has a concrete comeback date.
He says: “What I’ve learned is that I miss it. I’m still hoping in the next two to three weeks to be back on the bench”. “I don’t know exactly when, but I think I will be back coaching again this season”.
The Warriors have offered no timeline for his return from a leave of absence, but this homestand over the next two weeks could offer him a chance to test his ability to coach.
“The main thing is I just have to get well and be ready; when I do come back, be ready for the grind”.
So many feelings are running via Steve Kerr’s mind & body right away, & you might hear all of them in his voice Tues., virtually all of sudden.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr remains optimistic he will coach this season and believes the Warriors’ upcoming home stand will be a good indicator of when he can return. “We’re just really looking forward to him getting back, whenever that is”. Kerr has been a regular presence at Warriors home games throughout Golden State’s historic 24-1 start, as well as at occasional practices and shootarounds. He also said that all last season, he and his coaching staff kept commenting that the team would be so much better this season due to their experience and comfort in the new system. “And I was hoping we would just win enough games where [Walton] could get his feet wet and not have to worry about anything”.
Said backup point guard Shaun Livingston: “It feels great”. Kerr continued. “That’s kind of the question”.
“I figured the first part of the season would be tough”, Kerr said.
I asked him bluntly, was there ever a thought that you might skip this season?
