Golden record ends as Warriors `run out of gas’ against Bucks
Which was surprising, because it wasn’t like he was toting an historic winning streak back to the Bay Area in there.
The man who is being credited with the win against a formidable team like Warriors is Greg Monroe. O.J. Mayo put starch in the home team’s shorts early, while Jabari Parker and Michael Carter-Williams saved their best for later.
Milwaukee took all the lessons Jason Kidd has taught them the past year and a half and applied them in the first game Golden State hadn’t scored 100 points all year.
What did the Warriors do wrong? They also broke the record for most consecutive road wins to start the season with 14. The bench, other than Festus Ezeli, brought little offensively. They didn’t seem to be too carried away with whatever the streak was.
In the past 25 seasons, the NBA’s last undefeated team went on to win the title on nine different occasions, including last season’s Warriors, who went five games before suffering their first defeat.
“What we are trying to do is be an National Basketball Association championship team”.
“Y’all thought we were gonna be sad, huh?”
Teams try to counter the Warriors by going small, but the Bucks had the big bodies to make it work. A raucous Bucks cheering section proved prophetic after wearing green “24-1” shirts to the game.
Green even made sure of that, speaking up immediately afterward to the crew that had accomplished so much. The defeat offers the Warriors a chance to regroup and refocus their attentions on the bigger picture. And clean a few things up. It remains unclear when head coach Steve Kerr (complications from offseason back surgery) may make his season debut, but interim coach Luke Walton has proven himself capable at every turn so far.
The Warriors’ defense was starting to slip, Walton said. It was a lot of fun.
The Warriors won 24 games to start this season, very impressive.
The Bucks, meanwhile, would be happy just to catch up to their own. When a team’s won so many games in a row like that, it’s indicative of a process on both sides of the ball that’s recognizable but wholly unstoppable. They flew out of Milwaukee with seven weeks of fond memories that can’t be eclipsed by a single, streaks-snapping loss to the Bucks — and also the knowledge that the novelty is over and it’s time a bit of self-evaluation. Lacy, a week after being disciplined for breaking curfew, rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown, Rodgers threw for 218 yards and two scores and Clay Matthews got his first sack in two months for the first-place Packers. “We can’t sleep, ‘” the New York Knicks guard said. ” ‘Moose’s played [power forward] before coming here”.
Forward Draymond Green said: “I am not happy it is over because at the end of the day what we did was pretty cool”. That’s what we’ll be doing after giving them a day off tomorrow. The record for the longest unbeaten run is now held by Los Angeles Lakers. “But for 48 minutes, I don’t think anybody can say we played as hard as they did”. So long, streak. It was nice while it lasted.
“You can kind of appreciate what we were able to accomplish”, Curry said. “Thirty three wins was within our grasp”. The streak was going to come to an end at some point, and the Bucks just happened to have the stars align for them in order to be the team to do it.
