Browns praise Johnny Manziel’s focus following win

What was even more promising for the Browns other than putting a complete team effort together? Not since week 2 against the Titans where the Browns were able to notch 7 sacks against rookie Marcus Mariota has the defense gotten anywhere close to that much pressure.

It became obvious early in Sunday’s game against the Browns that the 49ers run defense was in for a tough day.

Manziel’s floater to the middle of the field was picked off by 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt and returned 25 yards to help set up the next San Francisco drive before the first half ended.

“When you had the streak that we had of losses, that overreaction, people driving by the building to see if it is on fire, ” Pettine said. “I’m feel I’m just getting started”. Seeing as the San Francisco was 4-8 entering a road game, I do not understand how you can play anybody soft. Manziel threw for 270 yards, a touchdown, and one interception. That news came a day after the guard exited the team’s loss to the Cleveland Browns in the third quarter when a linebacker collided with him.

In addition to showing a level of pride in the win over the 49ers, Pettine believes the Browns will quell some of the outside noise surrounding the franchise, at least for the next seven days.

Remember, after last week’s win at Chicago, when everyone proclaimed Blaine Gabbert as the 49ers’ best option for 2016? I am not saying he is the answer, but unless an absolute stud quarterback is available to the 49ers in round one, I would fill other needs. Cleveland rushed for 230 yards, the most by the Browns since 2010.

NOTES: 49ers WR Anquan Boldin had two catches for 22 yards, becoming the first player league history to record 50 or more receptions and 600 yards in each of his first 13 seasons. Paying eight million a year, for 24 catches through 14 games is unacceptable.

Manziel looked to Hartline often Sunday, targeting him 10 times before the injury. Crowell has now scored in three different games this year, with the Browns tallying their only wins of the season in those games.

On his first trip back to Cleveland, the 49ers’ kicker struggled to contain his emotions.

“He did a lot with them”, Tomsula said of Kilgore’s snaps. “This is a guy that’s a leader”.

“This is a guy who is a leader in the locker room, a leader in the meeting rooms, ” Pettine said.

Coming into the season, the Browns gave up 136 yards per game on the ground.
