Fabregas: Big Players Must Behave Like Big Players
Whether or not that is true will be up for debate for a long time to come but, ultimately, what matters most is who Abramovich and his board believe in the ongoing theatrical production that is Chelsea F.C’s season.
His rise has inevitably seen him linked with January moves to Premier League rivals.
Mourinho has acknowledged that there are no guarantees he will be in charge for Saturday’s game at home to Sunderland.
If Mourinho is able to avoid a sacking before the knockout stages begin, he must beat Paris Saint Germain (no easy feat) in order to have any hope of keeping his job beyond this season.
After showing signs of recovery in recent weeks with four clean sheets in the five matches leading up to the visit to Leicester, Chelsea returned to the jaded-looking languid form they had frequently displayed previously.
And there were conflicting reports yesterday about the financial implications of sacking Mourinho.
What was Mourinho pointing at by applying the term “betrayal”?
In response, midfielder Cesc Fabregas said his team-mates needed to justify their “big wages” and start playing like “big players”.
“I think there is a hole with key players not performing”.
“We had Beckham and Scholes and that and you’d go out at Wembley and any sort of mistake you’d make, the fans would be on you, the pressure would be on you. If you are a big player and paid like a big player, you must play like a big player and behave like a big player”, the 28-year-old said.
“It’s best for me to stay until the end of the season”.
“My players got all that information but we still conceded the first and the second goals from those movements”, he added.
“Confidence is important until a certain point”, said Fabregas.
“You can trust Mourinho to wake them up – none of the players will be asleep against PSG. We have to try to be better than we were”. “We’ve put ourselves in this position so we have to now prove – we really, really, really have to now start winning”.
Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea boss, on the other hand, feels betrayed by his own men after losing to Leicester.
“Anybody can say that someone is good or not, but when you have been in so many leagues in Europe and you have won the league it shows that you are one of the best”. Is it (Kurt) Zouma? I would prefer to continue with the team until the end of the season. But they have lost nine games so far, nine games. If we lose an individual like me, [Jamie] Vardy or [N’Golo] Kante, it could penalise the team.
“I have just got this sneaky feeling – he always seems to produce something all the time”. I think all the great players go through a period where nothing works.
