EE recalls all Power Bar chargers over fire safety concerns
EE had issues with some of its chargers earlier in the year recalling a small number due to safety concerns. The recall was issued after customers complained that the devices had caught fire.
In August, it was found a certain batch of chargers – the “E1-06” model – could be faulty and were recalled, however, the fault appears to have spread to other chargers.
“Keeping our customers safe is extremely important to us, and that’s why we’re taking this voluntary and precautionary action”. Customers who return their Power Bars to the nearest EE center will be able to enjoy a £20 voucher which can then be used to redeem at accessories at EE’s online site.
The mobile operator previously recalled about 500,000 of the mobile phone chargers after realising that some were overheating, with at least one person suffering burns after a Power Bar exploded in their bedroom.
Those unable to get to an EE store, are recommended to call 0800 079 0305 for further information on what to do. As part of the promotion, any power bar could be exchanged for an identical fully charged unit at an EE retail store.
Although customers did not have to pay for the Power Bars, EE has told users that when they return a Bar to the store, they will receive a £20 voucher in return.
The products were handed out free to all customers in April.
“Lithium-ion charging devices, such as a EE Power Bar, contain mechanisms to prevent them from getting too hot”.
