Trailer of ‘Neerja’ featuring Sonam Kapoor leaves a numbing impact
Akhil Bhanot and Aneesh Bhanot – the real life brothers of late air hostess Neerja Bhanot – will attend the trailer launch of “Neerja”, a biopic on their sister here on Wednesday. The flight from Karachi to Frankfurt was hijacked at its point of origin by Palestinian terrorists on 5 September, 1986.
Neerja was posthumously conferred the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, in 1987, the youngest and first woman recipient of the medal. The trailer gives an a glimpse on the hijack that took place on that fateful Pan Am that led to Neerja’s death. She was a normal girl.
The actress had recently said that she was under stress while shooting for the film. “You need to have courage to do things”. The 30-year-old actress revealed that there are several similarities between Neerja and her. “I can relate to Neerja because of my family values, relationships, sensitivity and strong sense of ethics”.
With her last release “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” being a superhit, Sonam says the Rajshri Production film has given her a wider reach as an actor. Neerja was quite young when she died saving kids in the bullets of the terrorists.
