UFC Fight Night 80 Post-Fight Press Conference

A tearful Paige VanZant admitted she had been outclassed by Rose Namajunas after she suffered her first defeat in the UFC.

In the fifth, VanZant’s string of luck finally ran out as Namajunas secured a rear-naked choke. Her performance was described as flawless – and rightfully so. Namajunas refocused after the loss and vowed that she would make the upcoming year belong to her.

Namajunas routed VanZant. It was thorough and one-sided, and after four-and-a-half rounds of trying to recreate her “Harlem Shake” video by bloodying and battering VanZant, she finished with a rear-naked choke.

This is the kind of fight she needed – one that shows her where she needs to focus and improve, but that still gives her a ton of confidence; at least it should.

Elsewhere on the card, Michael Chiesa likely punched his ticket to the lightweight top 15 with a submission win over Jim Miller.

Where do these two go from here?

Northcutt set the bar extremely high in his first bout and is more than happy to live up to the new expectations the second time around.

In the second frame, Northcutt rebounded from the adversity and was able to finish Pfister with a guillotine choke. But has the 19-year-old sensation silenced any doubters he may have?

“You know, I just don’t think the kid has a chin”, the 25-year-old Pfister is quoted on the UFC’s “Embedded” show.

The preliminary card begins at 6:45 p.m. ET, while the main card begins at 10 p.m. ET. ‘They go in and take fights.

The soft spoken, easy going “Thug” Rose had an answer for everything Paige tried offensively. Most would have expected the always exciting Tim Means versus the always tough Jon Howard to grace the main card.

“I’m ready to get back in the gym as soon as possible”, VanZant said.

Also undefeated is Aljamain Sterling (11-0), he is looking to keep that zero in his record when he faces Johny Eduardo (27-9) from Brazil.

Solid debut win for Danny “Hot Chocolate” Roberts, who wrapped up a triangle choke along the cage that put veteran Nathan Coy to sleep. Theodorou is a finisher who has many wins by knock out as well so it could be anyone’s fight. A solid line-up calls for solid picks, right?
