Warriors start new streak after first loss, Mavs lay an egg
The Warriors had wasted no time in getting back to their winning ways in their first game since suffering their first loss of the season, thrashing the Phoenix Suns in a 128-103 rout at Oracle Arena on Wednesday. He scored 43 points (15-of-22 FG, 8-of-13 3FG, 5-of-5 FT), including 27 in the third quarter, for the second-highest total of his career. “We’ve got a very competitive team, and we do not like to lose”.
Walton obliged, and so did Klay Thompson.
The Warriors’ first loss of the 2015-16 season Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks did more than end a record-setting start to the season – it also carried the potential to normalize what had previously seemed like an unstoppable force.
Golden State’s loss means the league’s hottest streak belongs to Oklahoma City Thunder who are five unbeaten. “We were real sloppy in the first quarter”, Thompson said.
There’s nothing wrong with the dunk, but the stare-down, trying to talk nasty in the game like that. “And it’s like, ‘Alright, you’re going to see us next Friday and in our building, too'”.
This win, along with the Cavs’ one, shows that they are in the right direction and it was more their ability to reach the victory rather than the Warriors’ inability to win.
“When you get a stop or get a transition opportunity, you try to find him wherever he is”, said Curry, finished with 25 points and seven assists. As for the mouth trouble that Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said made Wade sound “like he had a bunch of marbles in his mouth”, Wade said he didn’t know the cause.
With the game nearly over things got a little heated as Ronnie Price hit Warriors big man Marresse Speights on the head, when he was on his way to the basket, and Bogut wasn’t happy, given that the game was already over.
The Warriors’ 13-point halftime lead grew and grew and grew in the third quarter, as the Warriors pushed the pace with transition baskets and Thompson hit most everything he shot. Unfortunately for the Suns, they were on the schedule for a Warriors team that was well-rested and looking forward to tasting victory again.
Suns: Phoenix surrendered 15 3-pointers this time after giving up a Golden State franchise-best 22 from long range – and NBA-record 15 in the first half – in the first meeting with the Warriors on November 27….
Then, after they were done with those 20 minutes of so-so play, they annihilated their opponents. The Celtics fell 119-116 to the Pistons, but Thomas was sensational, going for 38 points on 12 of 20 shooting and diming out seven assists on Wednesday.
Having become dependent on Stephen Curry for the most part in recent weeks, the win over the Suns showed what the Warriors are capable of when it becomes about the bigger picture.
