Security officer kills man at courts complex
A man has been shot and killed occurred Thursday morning at the courthouse attached to the Dearborn Heights Police Department.
Edward Mandell, 53, of Dearborn Heights rushed to the Dearborn Heights Justice Center after his wife called, whispering about a shooting.
Police say the alleged knife-wielding man lunged at someone inside the building and was then shot by a court officer. He eventually got upset and pulled out the knife, according to the mayor. He declined to release the man’s age, how he was killed or what kind of weapon he had.
As a result, Crestwood and Daley schools have are closed as a precaution and the police department has remained on lockdown. He said she works in the records department and is OK but heard the shots being fired.
Michigan State Police are investigating the incident.
The building briefly went into lockdown after the shooting.
