The teenager is said to have been a huge fan of Drake and his friends used the hashtag #DrakenoticeJamal to gain the attention of the Toronto rapper.

The recent Wireless headliner, who grew up in Canada, was responding to a heartfelt social media campaign to get the music artist to “notice” Jamal Ottun.

Jamal Ottun, 17, from Sutton, died on his school’s rugby tour in Vancouver.

In the week that followed his death friends and family have taken to social media to celebrate the popular schoolboy’s life, starting with Facebook group “In memory of Jamal” and later the Twitter campaign.

The caption read “Heard this young man was a big fan”.

Soon the hashtag #DrakeNoticedJamal was trending with one user posting: “To know that we’ve made someone’s dream come true is mad #DrakeNoticedJamal #RIPJAMAL”. “Watch over me from way up above!” He was very ambitious and wanted to work as an economist and make money in the City.
