Argentine president to address supporters amid criticism
Only rapturous applause and shouts of “Yes, we can!” from the crowds gathered in the Argentine capital as Macri ushered in a new era of South American politics.
After Macri ended 12 years of Peronist-run governments under Fernandez and her late husband, Nestor Kirchner, the first order of business will be a potential debt deal, the legacy of Argentina’s 2001 economic meltdown that triggered a default on $100 billion worth of sovereign debt – the largest in history.
In his inaugural speech, Macri vowed to battle Argentina’s biggest problems as a country, which include corruption, poverty, and drug trafficking.
Correa and Bolivia’s leftist President Evo Morales, who was also closely allied with Fernandez, told reporters on Thursday they expected a constructive working relationship with Macri despite ideological differences.
“Elections are gone and the moment has come for all to join together and improve for our country to progress”, Macri affirmed in his first presidential message alter taking oath of office before the Legislative Assembly in Congress.
“Today a dream is being achieved”, he said. A growing spat between Argentina’s outgoing president and president elect over inauguration day logistics took a odd turn on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015.
Macri beat Fernandez’s chosen successor in the November 22 election. He has also pledged “good relations with all countries”, including the United States.
“Macri needs to get some immediate points on the board to justify the confidence that exists on things like exchange rate unification and elimination of farm export taxes”, said Gary Kleiman, of Kleiman International Consultants in Washington. With fighting no-one wins, with dialogue, everyone wins.
Mr. Prat-Gay said he would need some time in office to study government accounts before announcing new plans.

Following the federal court ruling, an interim president will now be handing over the presidential sash to Macri.
Ms Fernandez had insisted that the handover should also take place in Congress, where her party holds a majority of seats.
Macri’s incoming Finance Secretary Luis Caputo, who traveled to NY this week, spoke with banks about backing the loans with sovereign debt owned by the central bank, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private. She is “leaving not with nostalgia but with a rallying cry”, it concludes.
Predecessor Cristina Kirchner did not attend handover ceremony amid row with new president. Many supporters said it was not a goodbye, but a demonstration of recognition to thank the president for her eight years in office.
Alternately exultant and emotional, Macri, even began dancing on the balcony while Vice President Gabriela Michetti launched into a song.
