UN Slams Israel for “Excessive Use of Force” Against Terrorists
The incident took place on Monday after a 21-year-old Palestinian named as Abed al-Mhasan allegedly drove his vehicle into Israeli settlers standing at the bus stop at the western entrance of the city.
The army said it was checking whether the soldiers were hit by Palestinian gunmen or by friendly fire.
To be noted, issuance of construction permits for Palestinians living in Jerusalem and in Area C of the West Bank, both under full Israeli administrative and military control, is strictly limited, forcing those living in such areas to embark on construction without obtaining a permit, risking the process having their homes demolished.
Since October 1, nearly daily attacks by Palestinians and clashes with Israeli soldiers have killed 117 on the Palestinian side, 17 Israelis, an American and an Eritrean.
More than half of the Palestinian fatalities have been alleged attackers, while others have been shot dead by Israeli security forces during clashes.
Young Palestinians have grown frustrated with Israel’s occupation and the complete lack of progress in peace efforts, in addition to their own fractured leadership.
In his speech, the Palestinian leader repeated accusations that Israel was seeking to change the status quo on the Temple Mount and that this had been a major source of Palestinian rage directed at Israelis.
She added that the forces were conducting arrests and confiscating weapons in the Qalandiya refugee camp, near Ramallah.
“The unacceptable wave of stabbings, shootings, and car-rammings continues to kill and injure Israelis”, said Cecile Pouilly, a spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Office.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas referred to the last three months of violence Monday as a “justified popular uprising”.
Witnesses told local news agency Maan that Israeli forces left Jahajha to “bleed to death” before taking his body and detaining another resident who had been shot and injured.
