Jose Aldo Says He Deserves Conor McGregor Rematch; Jon Jones Agrees
Conor McGregor was declared the victor by knockout and crowned featherweight champion Saturday against Jose Aldo during UFC 194 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
One way or another, it doesn’t look like Jose Aldo is getting another crack at Conor McGregor any time soon.
“The options are there now”, said McGregor.
Aldo, like so many of us, are still trying to figure out exactly what caused one of the best fighters of all-time to lose in a blink of an eye.
The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring. White then backtracked and left open the possibility for McGregor to face Edgar, but said Aldo would “face someone else”.
“It still is too hard to digest”, the Brazilian great told Combate.
Coincidentally, Aldo also holds the record for the longest average fight time in UFC history, at 21 minutes, according to ESPN.
And it only took him 13 seconds to land the coveted spot.
The Dubliner came out quickly and connected with a straight left, which caught Aldo precisely on the chin, putting “Junior” out cold on the canvas.
At the UFC 194 post-fight press conference, McGregor shot down any and all ideas of vacating his 145-pound title, saying instead he’d be a dual champion.
McGregor has always had aspirations to fight at lightweight, but his coach, John Kavanagh, wants him to move up due to the severity of the weight cut.
McGregor has a record of 19-2 and Aldo is 25-2. Either way, Aldo will be waiting several months for his rematch. It takes a while for us to digest, but its part of the sport.
Meanwhile, Rafael Dos Anjos will defend the lightweight title on Saturday in Orlando against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and both fighters said this weekend that they’re already confident about their chances against McGregor.
“I’ve put in a hell of a lot of work this year, it’s been a insane, crazy year for me”.
The Irishman, undefeated in the UFC, predicts an early victory against Aldo. If it’s God’s will, I’ll come back stronger and conquer (the belt) for you. Of course, I want a rematch, I think I have that right.
