Conor McGregor Tops Jose Aldo in UFC’s Shortest Title Fight
McGregor’s stunning, 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo Saturday, which earned him the featherweight crown, broke Ronda Rousey’s company record for fastest win. Although Aldo’s left fist eventually struck, it wasn’t before McGregor countered with a flashing left hand that stunned the former champion.
After watching the fight, Aldo still can’t pinpoint his exact mistake.
“If Chad (Mendez) had had a full training camp, he would have killed him”.
Conor McGregor is a man of his word.
Velasquez isn’t a huge PPV draw either and hasn’t accomplished near as much as Jose Aldo, whereas Rousey’s return against Holm could set the UFC all-time PPV record.
Aldo, like so many of us, are still trying to figure out exactly what caused one of the best fighters of all-time to lose in a blink of an eye.
Following the fight, Aldo explained in his post-fight interview (transcribed by MMA Junkie) that a rematch with McGregor only makes sense.
Understandably, Twitter users gave Riggs plenty of pointers on how to go about fulfilling his promise. He’s hoping to get an immediate rematch.
“I do enjoy the numbers”, he said.
‘Of course, I want a rematch, and I think I have this right.
“It didn’t affect anything”, Aldo said. And the UFC is having enough trouble putting title fights on every PPV card without multiple belts on a single person.
“We spoke [with Dana White] right after”, Aldo said. “I don’t care what he says”. That can happen to anyone in a combat sport, and Aldo is is right that the main event of UFC 194 wasn’t really a fight. “This is trending as the highest pay-per-view of all time for the UFC”, he added. It is a sport, we have to accept. Not only winning one lives life. If God wills it, we will come back a lot stronger, and we will bounce back.
Jones told Ariel Helwani, “Conor McGregor wrote to me, he said: ‘Hey champ, you know that once a champ, always a champ and I believe you’re going to come back from this strong.’ Just writing me words of encouragement”.
