Floretino Perez : No Jose Mourinho Deal Yet
Over three tempestuous seasons at the Spanish giants Mourinho brought great success but perhaps even greater acrimony, notably clashing with club captain Iker Casillas.
Perez said it was false that the players had fallen out with the coach and said neither Mourinho nor Zinedine Zidane would be replacing him.
Madrid are now third in La Liga, five points behind leaders Barcelona, and will face Roma in the second round of the Champions League after winning their group.
The club’s notoriously demanding supporters appear unconvinced by the new man in charge, with many quick to express their discontent when performances are deemed unsatisfactory, particularly at home, like the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Barca last month. “To challenge for the title you have to win a lot of games and these types of matches, with the favorable situation that existed before kickoff there for us to really lay down our title intentions”. He knows the club well, he knows how things work.
Benitez’s position at Real Madrid has been under scrutiny since day one, with some believing his defensive approach to the game does not fit in at the ten-time Champions League winners.
“We need to find a way to take a step forward, and the only secret to that is to keep working hard”, midfielder Raul Baena said.
“No, no-one. Zidane was my most enigmatic signing and he will be a great coach and I’m sure if he wants to be Madrid coach then he will be, but not today”.
It is understood Mourinho – now on £12m-a-year – has already been sounded out by his advisers and Chelsea would welcome him getting a job quickly as they would not have to carry on paying him.
Despite being at the very beginning of his managerial career, Zidane is very popular among all players of the first team, while he is well aware of every single detail in the locker room following his involvement with Ancelotti.
