Sports Illustrated names Serena Williams 2015 Sportsperson of the Year
At the age of just 22 years old, Garbine Muguruzahas been proving that she can already mix it with the best players in the world and she is only going to get better with age.
Serena won three Majors, and was ranked No. 1 for every week of the season for the second straight year. Even president Barack Obama, the most scrutinized man alive, told her how great it was to watch her.
“Everyone always asked, ‘What was your greatest moment in tennis?’ and I always said it hasn’t happened”.

After winning multiple grand slams, battling racist comments and numerous health issues all in this single year, among other feats, the athlete came out on top to be chosen as the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year 2015.
Sports Illustrated honors her dominance in 2015, when she won 53 of her 56 matches, three of the four Grand Slam events and built the most yawning ranking points gap between her and her closest competitor in tennis history.
Williams becomes the third woman to have the Sportsperson of the Year award all to herself and the first since Mary Decker won in 1983. “For Sports Illustrated to recognize my hard work, dedication and sheer determination with this award gives me hope to continue on and do better”.
Meanwhile, Williams also shared a snap of her Sports Illustrated cover on Instagram and expressed her gratitude.
Not many people are happy with Williams’ title as the Sportsperson of the year, according to the LA Times. She had an awesome year.
Meanwhile, American Pharoah, the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown, was the victor from the magazine’s online poll, taking 47%. I just thought of women I admired and I didn’t let anyone in the studio from Pirelli. However, horse-racing fans are crying foul that Triple Crown-winning thoroughbred American Pharoah was snubbed, despite leading the poll for the award.
