Focus on Mourinho’s demise, but Van Gaal under pressure
Louis van Gaal has hinted that Manchester United may struggle to buy players in the January transfer window.
“I have the full confidence of my board and my players, I feel, and it’s like that”.
A warning over how big name managers are not safe arrived yesterday when Chelsea chose to sack Jose Mourinho, despite the Portuguese leading the club to the Premier League title last season.
“What I’ve said last week, the main thing is always of course the results and, second, the chemistry between the players and manager and his staff. It’s this world. José knows that also”.
“That is like that, but we have to get results, we have to win”.
“It’s like that, managers know in advance, it’s this world”.
“I can not judge what is happening at Chelsea but I was surprised”.
It’s extremely important for Manchester United to win at home against the canaries to stay alive in the Championship race.
“That is always like that when you lose”, said Van Gaal. “But I’ve said already a couple of times, I have seen articles that it’s not like that”. “Fans have to prove their belief again”. When you lose that [belief] is less at that moment.
“The board of directors can see what you can do as a manager, but the fans cannot see that”.
The Dutchman has also been criticized by fans and pundits for his boring style of football, so unless the former Barcelona manager turns things around, Merson has cautioned that Mourinho could soon be considered to take over his position.
After three games not featuring for the Red Devils, Wayne Rooney is set to return under Louis Van Gaal against Norwich City. “Herrera has trained a full week”. Three or four players are coming back.
“Rooney has been out for more or less two weeks so it is possible that he will play but we have to wait and see”, Van Gaal said.
