Facebook Rolls Out Live Video Streaming To Verified Pages
For now, the live broadcast feature is only available for iOS and it is expected that soon it would be released for Android users as well. The social network first introduced a pilot program that allowed celebrities to broadcast video in real-time back in August; yesterday it rolled out the feature to all users and now, it’s available to verified Pages as well. Earlier this month, it started a test to give access to a set of iOS users, and today it’s opening the floodgates for brands and businesses with verified Pages.
After broadcasting, the videos can be saved as a post on the website and will be available for watching multiple times.
Facebook automatically notifies anyone who has recently interacted with a page or subscribed to the page’s live video updates when the page owner goes live, and any concluded live stream is being posted as a regular video on the page in question.
With this move, Facebook is slowly inching towards the ultimate goal of overtaking Periscope in its own generic battle. There are 4 billion video views on Facebook every day and 65% of them take place on mobiles.
And while the upgrade initially is just for Verified Pages, we can expect Live being opened up for general public in a few months time. The social networking giant has been growing Facebook Live as it believes the platform will eventually be taken over by videos.
Starting a stream is very easy, and all that Page owners need to do is tap the “Publish” button and select “Live Video”.
In an effort to persuade partners to publish more video on its service, the Menlo Park company has also started sharing ad revenue with video creators, a strategic step that should help it to rake in even more revenue.
