‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ thrills fans, sets records

“Star Wars” fans flooded cinemas around the world Thursday for the first showings of the breathlessly anticipated seventh installment of the space saga, and they floated out on nostalgia and positive reviews.
The Walt Disney Co. said Thursday the film debuted with $14.1 million from its first screenings Wednesday in 12 global markets.
The newly-married couple said they were in shock when they realized how many fans and media showed up to record their intimate day.
“I was kind of looking forward to a futuristic, bitchin” movie, but it was an old “Star Wars’ movie”, he said.
Caroline Ritter, 34, a truck driver, and firefighter Andrew Porters, 29, were among about 100 die-hard fans who camped outside Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre since December 5 for the opening of “The Force Awakens”.
Carol Vasquez (24) from South Gate, California, who came in costume, said she was excited to see the return of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. “I’m kinda scared there’s gonna be a “Darth Vader/Mickey Mouse” in there, but maybe not”, said movie-goer, Devin Burrow.
The general manager of the theater said the first showing Friday is around 9 a.m.so his staff will be getting in at 7:30 a.m. and he says he expects the weekend to be huge in terms of sales.
